Our food philosophy goes hand in hand with how we run our store - everyone is welcome and seen here. We strive to have something for everyone no matter what their dietary preference is. You will always find vegan and vegetarian options available and any time we can make a dish gluten free we do (on average 80% of the deli case is gluten free!). There has been no slowing down since Ali West reopened the doors on February 1, 2023. Ali's view is "I don’t care about your politics, I don’t care who you are socially or economically. We want you to feel welcome here at the Guilford Country Store. I want all people to feel comfortable here.”
For many Guilford residents the Guilford Country Store has become their “third place.” A third place is a sociological term that describes the place people choose to be outside of the first two: home and work; a place where you can connect with others in your community. Every vibrant community has a third place.
Ali shared a story that proves everything happens for a reason: “I was eight-years old when I moved to Guilford. At that time the country store had a beagle named “Ali” and the owners were Pat and Jim Good. My parents are Pat and Jim Haine. I said right then, ‘Someday, I’m going to own this store’ and 42 years later I became the owner.”
It’s clear The Guilford Country Store is becoming Guilford’s favorite third place because for Ali, this is her “Happy Place.”
